At first sight, the choice does not seem easy, as the Majorcan territory has 550 km of coast and around 345 beaches. Now, it is time to choose those beaches that have everything necessary for a fun and safe day for everyone. This means that they must be easily accessible by car or on foot, have all the necessary equipment and be calm and with slow tides so that the sea takes time to cover.
That said, the time has come to dive into the most interesting spots on the coast of Majorca – let’s get to it!
1. Beach of Alcúdia
We start our list of the 10 best beaches to go with children in Mallorca with one of the great classics of family tourism in the north of the island: the beach of Alcúdia, distinguished blue flag for its cleanliness and the quality of its waters. With fine white sand and an incredible extension of 3.5 km, it is a perfect choice if you are thinking of travelling with children. Although it is not always easy to park next to the beach, access is easy, as it is in the tourist area of the port of Alcúdia, with bars and restaurants and shops and close to the medieval enclosure of this town. Once there, the little ones will enjoy a children’s play area with swings and gymnastic equipment. There is also a kayak and sailing boat rental service. As for its waters, they have good visibility and are calm, but waves can rise from the north, so it is important to find out about the state of the sea before visiting Alcúdia.
2. Beach of Muro
This beach, the largest in Majorca, is made up of four sections totaling 6 km. Located in the attractive village of Muro and very close to Alcúdia, on the northeast coast, it has white sand, is bathed by light blue waters and stands out for its easy access, the presence of restaurants, children’s play areas and the slow progression of its waters, as you have to walk a long way until they begin to cover. Furthermore, this is a place that is highly appreciated by surfers, paddle surfers, windsurfers and other water sports lovers. Three of its four sectors -that is to say, all but the last one, Es Capellans- have been awarded the blue flag.
3. Port de Pollença Beach
We continue in the north of Majorca and with another beach with a blue flag. In this case, it is the beach of Port de Pollença, located only 10 minutes from the old town and with a total length of 1.5 km. It is worth paying attention to the impressive surrounding landscape, which shows the hills of Formentor and the Tramuntana mountain range. There are many shops and restaurants in the area, and the beach has sunbeds and parasols for rent. Its waters have an attractive color hue that varies between green and blue, are usually calm, although sometimes the northern wind can shake the swell a little. And if you want to be in the shade for a while, there is a large grove of trees perfect for a picnic.
4. Mesquida Cove
This beach of fine sand and transparent waters, which many people consider to be among the best coves in Majorca, is located in an area that has been declared a Natural Area of Special Interest, along with the coves of Agulla and Moltó. It is surrounded by pine trees and dunes, which make up a place of undeniable beauty. All this without giving up on an easy access and with a parking lot that is only 200 m away. The cove is 300 m long and 130 m wide and offers the tourist numerous services: showers, deckchair and sunshade hire, a restaurant and a bar. The farthest part is for nudists. In the vicinity, you can also visit the castle of Capdepera and the caves of Artà.
5. Canyamel beach
The urbanization Canyamel, on the northeast coast of Mallorca, gives room to this beautiful beach of sand and rocks where the blue flag also flies. Located just 10 km from Artà and Capdepera, it is surrounded by a natural reserve and an estuary, making this enclave more than recommendable for birdwatchers. We are in front of a 290 m long family beach with fine sand and transparent blue waters, ideal to dive in Majorca. The only drawback? The swell that gusts of wind sometimes produce. There you will also find showers, lockers and toilets, a deckchair and parasol rental service, not to mention paddle boats and kayaks. And if you feel like getting your strength back, there is a bar and restaurant right on the beach.
6. S’Amarador Beach
In the tourist area of Santanyí, in the southeast of Majorca, is the beach of S’Amarador, located 6 km from S’Alqueria Blanca. With fine sand and a slight slope, it stands out for its dune vegetation, with pines, barrels and thistles. It is worth remembering that this small sand beach in the shape of a small lagoon has been chosen for the reintroduction of the land turtle since 1985. Since it is less crowded than the neighboring beach of Sa Font d’en Alís, it has fewer tourist services. However, these are at a prudent distance. This is also an unbeatable destination to get close to Cala Mondragó, a protected area of 785 hectares which, in 1992, was elevated to the category of Natural Park.
7. Cala Esmeralda
In the urbanization of Cala d’Or, in the south of Mallorca, the tourist cove Cala Esmeralda unfolds, a sandy beach and rock 40 m long and 25 m wide. Although it is very crowded, this beach is perfect for children because you must go deep into the Mediterranean to get the water covered. There are also toilets and showers, although these are for the exclusive use of the hotel in front of the cove.
8. Dolç Beach
The south of the island – and in particular, Colonia de Sant Jordi – can boast some of the best beaches to go to with children in Majorca. We are referring to the beach of Dolç, with sand and stones and incredible views of the island of Cabrera. Next to it is the Port beach, with a pine forest where many families come to enjoy a picnic. Although Dolç beach does not have a play area, this is an ideal place for children to snorkel, as this activity allows them to swim among the fish. The only drawback is the presence of algae, which can sometimes give off a somewhat intense smell. If you have time, take a walk to the lighthouse with your family.
9. Palmanova Beach
Just 10 minutes from the island’s capital, Palma de Mallorca, you will find this extensive beach with white sand and turquoise waters, 1 km long and ideal for children. Its final section has an extensive shaded area, a beach bar with prices within reach of all budgets, a beach club and a children’s playground. There is also an area where you can practice paddle surfing and take a ride on a banana boat. Although it is not always as clean as you would expect – the large influx of visitors does not help this – it is very advisable to spend a day with the family, as it offers all the services. Palmanova is also close to Magaluf and to areas with a wide range of leisure activities.
10. Camp de Mar Beach
The Camp de Mar urbanization, in Andratx – southwest of Majorca – has another of the best beaches to go to with children in Majorca. Guarded by an islet, located right in front of the beach and with a restaurant, this touristic and small sandy beach of 150 m long and 80 m wide guarantees a fun and risk-free bath for the little ones of the house. The cleanliness of its waters, its picturesque landscapes and a quiet family atmosphere are other advantages. There are golf courses and various hiking trails in around Mallorca.
