    XXIX Playa de Palma Challenge: from January 30 to February 2

    We begin our calendar of sporting events in Majorca for 2020 with this quintessential test, the old Cycling Tour of Majorca and the first big event of the professional cycling season in Spain. This edition, in which 23 teams will take part, will consist of four stages: Ses Salines-Camps Porreres-Felanitx (176.9 km); Andratx-Lloseta (172.4 km), Tramuntana mountain range: Sóller-Deià (140.1 km) and Playa de Palma-Palma (159.6 km).     XVI Isla Mallorca Rally: March 12-14

    For the last 15 years, the second weekend of March has brought this expected test to Calvià, in which 150 professional drivers sit behind the wheel of authentic gems in the history of motor racing. Thus, classic car models such as the New Stratoss, the AC Cobra, the Jaguar E-Type or the TVR will be driven around some of the most emblematic Majorcan roads. We guarantee you will not regret attending this event!

    Galatzó Trail 2020: March 15

    Discover the Majorcan landscape and test yourself. These two aims converge on the Galatzó Trail, a resistance race that is developed entirely by the public estate of Es Galatzó, in the municipality of Calvià and within the framework of the Tramuntana mountain range, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011. With more than 1,400 hectares of beautiful natural spaces, which occupy almost 10% of the municipal area, the itinerary runs between torrents, holm oak forests and cliffs, and with fantastic views of the sea. After the ascent to the top of the Galatzó and the Esclop, a descent through mountain paths begins until reaching sea level, when you will arrive at the calm beaches of Paguera, in the municipality of Calvià.

    The test is disputed in two modalities: the K21, 21 km long, and the K42, 42 km long (in the latter case, the registration fee is 40 euros). For both distances, the maximum number of participants is 500 (1,000 in total).

    XXVIII City of Palma Half Marathon / IX 10 Km Port of Palma: March 22

    The capital of Palma welcomes spring with this two-distance sporting event – 21,097 km and 10 km -, with departure and arrival at Camí de S’Escollera, in front of the cathedral of Palma. The circuit runs along the promenade, the Passeig de la Sagrera, the Levante highway and the center of Palma. All athletes who manage to finish the test will take home various gifts and a medal.     50th H.R.H. Princess Sofia Trophy: from March 29 to 31

    The Royal Yacht Club of Palma de Mallorca is the setting for this event, the queen of light sail regattas. Since its first edition, in 1968, the organization has managed to maintain the prestige and media impact of this competition, a must on the calendar for sports in Majorca.

    XI Mallorca 312: April 25

    Within the calendar of sporting events in Majorca for 2020, this cycling tour is one of the most anticipated. Although in its first edition, in 2010, it only brought together 199 athletes, today the number of participants is around 6,500. In addition, registrations can be filled within a few weeks of going on sale (however, if you want to take part, you can sign up for the waiting list on the official website). The aim of this race is to complete one of the three routes available in the test: Mallorca 312, which goes around the perimeter of the island; Mallorca 225 or Mallorca 167 (the number corresponds to the distance in kilometers). However, the distance can be decided on the same day as the test. Participants can receive medical attention throughout the race and use the bicycle maintenance service. Likewise, those who manage to finish the route can access a free massage and physiotherapy service.

    The exit and the goal for all distances are in the town of Playa de Muro, north of Majorca. As for the routes, they include some of the most beautiful villages in Majorca, such as Alcúdia, Pollença, Lluc, Sóller, Estellencs, Andratx, Esporles, Lloseta, Campanet, Ariany or Artà.

    37th Palma International Boat Show: from April 29 to May 3

    Although we already spoke about this show in our post about fairs and events in Majorca, the occasion deserves a quick summary of this event linked to the world of racing. We are talking about the Palma International Boat Show, an event dedicated to the nautical sector that is held annually at the Moll Vell in Palma. The figures speak for themselves: 270 direct exhibitors participate in it, more than 600 boats are exhibited, with 300 at sea, and more than a hundred luxury yachts, in a total of 82,000 m2 of exhibition space. Therefore, the number of attendees grows year after year, and 94% of visitors say they would like to repeat. Want to check out why?

    Ironman 70.3 Alcúdia-Mallorca: May 9

    The town of Alcúdia is one of the stages of the Ironman triathlon test, organized by the World Triathlon Corporation in different parts of the world. The figures illustrate its extreme conditions: contestants must cover 3.86 km swimming, 180 km by bike and 42.2 km running, with a time limit of 17 hours. However, the 2020 edition in Majorca is already sold out. Of course: we assure you that seeing these portentous athletes giving their everything is a worthwhile experience.

    Mallorca Championships: June 20-27

    One of the novelties of 2020 in the sports field will be the first edition of the Mallorca Championships, the first tennis ATP grass tournament in Spain. This competition will take place in the Santa Ponça Country Club and will distribute 900,000 euros in prizes. By the way: did you know that it was here that Rafa Nadal won his first ATP game in 2002?     39th Copa del Rey de Vela: from August 1 to 8

    The Real Club Náutico de Palma hosts one of the largest cruise regattas in the Mediterranean, which takes place in the waters of the Bay of Palma. The event brings together the most prestigious boats and crews on the international scene year after year.     XLI City of Palma Football Trophy: August

    The king sport also has its place in the sports calendar of Majorca. Each year, one of the best teams in the Spanish League faces RCD Mallorca during the league preseason in a one-game tournament. The match takes place at the Son Moix stadium, in Palma de Mallorca, and also serves to present the templates of the base football and the first team of the Vermilion team. Ticket prices are very cheap – for members, it’s free – so why not watch it from the stands?

    Zafiro Palma Marathon: October 11

    This is one of the most demanding athletic events of the calendar of sporting events in Majorca for 2020. In it, athletes must face a race of just over 42 km, which runs along the promenade of the bay of Palma, the cathedral and the historic center of Palma. The organizers also propose other activities: the Runner exhibition, Breakfast Run, Pasta Party and the Palma Kids Run children’s race. Would you like to take part?

    City of Palma sailing Trophy: early December

    For almost seven decades, the Real Club Náutico de Palma has hosted the Ciudad de Palma Trophy, in which more than 600 sailors from all over the world take part. Among the modalities which you can choose from, the Optimist category stands out, a sailing initiation class that brings together more than 400 vessels. Stay tuned for the final test dates!

    Port de Palma Nadal Cup: December 26

    If you are wondering what to do in Majorca at Christmas, we recommend you approach the pier of Las Golondrinas de Palma and witness this solidarity competition, which combines swimming and a running race.

    San Silvestre Juaneda: December 26

    Since its first edition in 2013, this athletic event has been gaining popularity, becoming one of the most anticipated Christmas competitions. Its nearly 10-kilometer route run mostly through the magnificent Bellver Castle, 2.5 km from Palma and in an environment with a smooth track and suitable for athletes of any level.

    Other Saint Silvester races: December 31

    On the last day of the year, several towns in Majorca, such as Alcúdia, Calvià, Can Picafort or Inca, celebrate the traditional San Silvestre race, with distances ranging from 5 km to 7.5 km. Nor is the island capital, Palma de Mallorca, with the San Silvestre Palma Palmilla, a solidarity test with two distances: 2 km and 10 km.
