Gothic splendor and Gaud\u00ed’s innovations: A captivating interior<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La Seu has been restored on several occasions, always preserving its original Gothic style. One of the most outstanding restorations is the one carried out by Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/strong>, at the request of the bishop Pere Joan Campins. The famous architect spent 10 years <\/strong>modifying some areas of this temple, such as the choir, the altarpiece, the main altar, the presbytery, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaud\u00ed’s last plan was to make a huge heptagonal crown topped by a sculpture of Jesus Christ crucified with the Virgin and St. John at his feet.<\/strong> However, the metal sculpture was never realized, as the contractor for the work did not agree with Gaud\u00ed’s revolutionary ideas. Gaud\u00ed was not the only renowned architect to work in La Seu. The Mallorcan artist Miguel Barcel\u00f3<\/strong>, 100 years later, refurbished the interior of the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament with a polychrome ceramic mural, which has become one of the main attractions of the cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stained glass and the light of the Mediterranean: A play of colors and beliefs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main rose window of the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca <\/strong>is also known as the Eye of the Gothic, as it has been recognized as the largest piece of the Gothic period. It is the largest rose window of all European cities <\/strong>and is completely glazed. It is also considered one of the largest in the history of Christianity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
