Once in S’Amarador (one of the best beaches in the park which is almost unspoilt), you can find a network of roads along the coast, offering a great variety of landscapes which is great for taking photos. The park offers several different routes that can be followed depending on your preferences. If you want a guided tour, they are held on Saturday mornings and can be requested in advance.

• Route for the lookout point at Sa Font de n’Alis.

This is a good option if you want to get to the beach without traffic. Drive in through the middle of the forest, enjoying the landscape and stop for a paddle at Sa Font de n’Alis stream, a shallow body of water which arises from the union of two smaller streams. This area is home to many native birds on the island such as the grey heron (Ardea cinerea), that usually migrate when the seasons change.

• Route around Sa Guardia de’n Garrot.

This beautiful itinerary on the side of the rocks allows you to enjoy much of the native flora of Majorca. It ends on a small sandy beach called Es Caló d’es Borgit, so called because the word borgit, sounds to the locals like the noise of waves breaking on rocks. This cove of turquoise blue water, is especially nice to visit on hot sunny days and offers wonderful views out to sea.

• Route for Ses Puntes de ses Gatoves.

This route leads us on foot through deep coastal forest, with views of the sea and the sounds of the waves. The road leads to Cala Mondragó, one of the most beautiful beaches of the area. On this path, we will find el savinar, a type of forest typical to the island that offers native plant species which can be found in all of the Balearic Islands.

• Route for S’Amarador.

This road leads to the largest beach in the park: S’Amarador, and allows you to visit one of the few parts of the lagoon that remain in the municipality. This path reveals small dry stone houses called barracas, which are typical to Majorca.

These routes lead to the large sandy beaches of Cala Mondragó and S’Amarador, that are connected by a small path that can be easily accessed on foot, although you can easily move from one beach to another by car. Cala Mondragó was declared a Natural Park in 1992 by the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, as well as a Natural Area of Special Interest for Birds by the European Community in 1995. The beach is made up of fine sand and shallow waters, making it ideal for travelling to Majorca with children.

For grown-ups, the best option is to enjoy a nice cold Mojito in the beach bar that you will find on the sand. Cala Mondragó is around 758 hectares in size, so there will be no problem in parking the car near the beach completely free of charge. If you walk to the east, you will find the beach of S’Amarador, and if you go to the west, the less crowded cove called Es Caló de’n Borgit. Before reaching the beach, you can find a stream which is home to species such as eels or marine snakes.

Another great place to visit near the park is Sa Barca Trencada, a small beach formed by a long stretch of sand and surrounded by pine forest, which is easily accessible for visitors travelling by car, just four minutes from Cala Mondragó on the road from S’Alqueria to Cala Mondragó.

The best way to get to these beaches is to look into car rental in Majorca offered by Roig. The best route to reach the park from the offices of Roig in Cala d’Or, to head towards Cala Egos, and turn off towards Portopetro, the port of Cala d’Or.
